Men's Soccer Edged by New England College in Conference Matchup

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Elms College Men's Soccer traveled to New England College for a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 2 | New England College 3
Records: Blazers 6-7-1, 2-4-1 (GNAC) | Pilgrims 7-5-1, 3-4-1 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The two conference foes would trade blows early, as New England would score the opening goal at 6:29 in the first half. But seconds after the first goal of the game, sophomore forward Ramaul Morgan, Jr. (Port Chester, N.Y.) would connect a pass to junior forward Andrew Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) to score a goal for Elms and tie the game 1-1. Both sides would continue to put pressure on each other's defense, with the Blazers seeing shots from senior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain), junior forward Dru Fairthorne (Ludlow, Mass.), first year defender Samuel Webster (Malaga, Spain), and junior defender Nicolas Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.), along with a pair of saves by sophomore goalkeeper Jack Bousquet (Clinton, Conn.). Unfortunately, the Pilgrims would add one more goal and will go into the halftime break with a 2-1 lead.

NEC would come out of the break with the same offensive pressure, taking two shots on net in the opening 10 minutes with Bousquet stopping both shots. But after the Pilgrims drew a penalty kick opportunity, NEC would take a 3-1 lead. The Elms offense would continue their efforts to put away a second goal, with shots from Fairthorne, senior midfielder Pajorn Drysdale (Nantucket, Mass.), junior midfielder Jelani John (Castries, Saint Lucia), and A.Velasquez. But in the closing minutes, the Blazers would draw a penalty kick opportunity of their own, and Molina Ferrer would find the back of the net to bring the score 3-2, but there would not be enough time for Elms to score a third goal to tie, and the Pilgrims would win the conference matchup.
