Men's Soccer Defeats Regis for Their First Conference Victory of the Season

WESTON, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team traveled to Regis College for a conference game on Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 3 | Regis College 1
Records: Blazers 5-2-1, 1-0-1 (GNAC) | Pride 1-5-1, 1-1-0 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams attacked each other offensively, but were unable to break through and score. Elms had an early penalty kick, but Regis' goalkeeper made a nice save on junior forward Dru Fairthorne's (Ludlow, Mass.) shot to keep the game tied at 0. The Blazers were the first to break through when senior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain) broke through the Regis defense and assisted senior forward Leonardo De Moura (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) for his third goal of the season to put Elms up 1-0. Elms controlled the ball after this goal and played smartly on both offense and defense, and went into half up 1-0.

Elms committed a crucial defense penalty right away to begin the second half, and Regis scored to net the game at 1-1. However, Elms did not let this mistake deter them, and continued to play aggressively. After a couple of his shots were saved by Regis, Fairthorne finally broke through and scored a goal, assisted by defender Camerson Pierre (Carfoure, Haiti) to put the Blazers up 2-1. Immediately after this, Molina Ferrer would net another goal to put Elms up 3-1 late. The Blazers controlled the ball late and earned a well fought 3-1 game for their first GNAC win.
