Men's Soccer Sinks Mitchell with a 4-2 Conference Victory

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Soccer team hosted Mitchell College in a conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

Score: Elms College 4 | Mitchell College 2
Records: Blazers 6-4-1, 2-2-1 (GNAC) | Mariners 1-8-1, 0-3-1 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers dedicated themselves to playing more aggressively on the offensive side of the end, as sophomore forward/defender Ibrahim Ayouba (Springfield, Mass.), first year midfielder/defender Casimir Pierre, Jr. (Carfoure, Haiti) and senior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain.) all put early shots on net, but Elms could not find the back of the net. Early on in the first half, Elms had a defensive lapse, resulting in a Mitchell goal to put the Mariners up 1-0. Before halftime, sophomore goalkeeper Jack Bousquet (Clinton, Conn.) made a key save to keep the game in reach for the Blazers. Even though they went into halftime down 1-0, the Blazers went into halftime confident that they could come out of the game with a win.

At the beginning of the second half, Molina Ferrer scored an equalizing goal to tie the game 1-1. With this momentum, the Blazers scored immediately after, as junior forward Dru Fairthorne (Ludlow, Mass.) scored a nice goal, assisted by Molina Ferrera and junior midfielder Jahmai Dixon (Duncans Trelawny, Jamaica). Up 2-1, the Blazers did not stop putting the pressure on the Mariners, as Pierre, Jr. scored Elms' third goal of the half, assisted by Molina Ferrer and Fairthorne. However, Mitchell was not deterred by the Blazers onslaught, as the Mariners responded with a penalty kick score to cut the Elms lead to 3-2. After this, Mitchell fired some close shots in an effort to tie the game at 3, but Bousquet made some key saves to preserve the Blazers lead. Late in the game, senior midfielder Pajorn Drysdale (Nantucket, Mass.) scored a game-sealing goal, assisted by Molina Ferrer and Fairthorne, that cemented the 4-2 win for the Blazers in a crucial GNAC game.
