Women's Soccer Lose to Blue Jays in Regular Season Finale

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer hosted University of Saint Joseph, Conn. for a conference matchup on Tuesday evening for their regular season finale at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half would begin with the two conference foes taking shots early in the contest, with Saint Joseph taking the first shot and would be saved by first year goalkeeper Sofia Rivers (Hamilton, Ohio), but Elms would be the first to score after a shot from junior forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Calif.) following a pass from senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play. Elms would continue the offensive pressure by taking five shots from McDonough, Basua, senior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.), and junior forward Kaylee Little (Boston, Mass.). Then in the 30th, the tide began to change, as the Blue Jays would take more shots, with Rivers adding a save, and USJ would even the score in the 34th minute of play. The final ten minutes of play would see the conference foes trade shots, including a shot from McDonough, but the score would remain tied 1-1 going into the halftime break.

As the second half began, the Elms offense would take some early shots from Little, Lee, and first year forward/midfielder Caitlin Willard (Northampton, Mass.), but the Blue Jays would take three-straight shots, with Rivers making two big saves, but Saint Joseph would find the back of the net on the final shot to take the lead 2-1. Both teams would continue to trade shots, including shots from junior midfielder Lilli Ramos (Springfield, Mass.), Lee, Basua, and Little from the Blazers, and Rivers making two more saves. Then in the 76th, 78th, and 80th minutes of play, the Blue Jays would add three more goals to their lead. Rivers would add three more saves and the Elms offense would add a shot from first year midfielder Claire Lewia (Meriden, Conn.). Unfortunately, USJ would defeat the Blazers 5-1 in their final contest of the 2025 season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Basua would score a goal, with three shots.

  • Rivers would make nine saves of the 14 shots she faced.

  • McDonough would have an assist and three shots.

  • Lee and Little would each take three shots.

  • Lewia, Ramos, and Willard would take a shot.
