HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Joseph's would be the first to make an offensive move, taking two shots in the opening six minutes of play, with one being saved by first year goalkeeper Breanna White (Lafayette, La.). Shortly thereafter, Elms would take their first shot off of the boot of senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.), but the Monks would take five shots of their own, with White making three saves. As the opening half continued, the Blazers would see two shots from senior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.), a save by White, and additional shots from junior forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Calif.) and sophomore midfielder/defender Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.), but as the clock expired for the half, the score would remain a scoreless tie.
The second half would see SJC take the first four shots, but White would stop three of them to keep the match scoreless. Basua and first year forward/midfielder Caitlin Willard (Northampton, Mass.) would both take shots shortly thereafter. As the clock neared its end, the two conference foes would continue their efforts to score the first goal of the day. Basua would take a shot, but the Monks would be successful in finding the back of the net in the 79th minute of play. Following that successful goal, Saint Joseph's would continue to put pressure on the Elms defense, taking six more shots.
