Women's Soccer Shuts Out New England College in Conference Victory at Home

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team hosted New England College in a conference matchup on Tuesday evening.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 2 | New England College 0
Records: Blazers 6-4-0, 3-2-0 (GNAC) | Pilgrims 3-5-2, 0-3-2 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The two conference foes would trade possession throughout the first half, but New England College would take five shots and Elms would take seven, off of the feet of  junior forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.), senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.), senior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.), and first year midfielder Claire Lewia (Meriden, Conn.). First year goalkeeper Breanna White (Lafayette, La.) made some key saves early for the Blazers to preserve a 0-0 tie. Elms struggled to get anything going on the offensive end, but their defense held strong and went into halftime tied.

The Blazers came out very aggressive after halftime, as Basua, junior forward Kaylee Little (Boston, Mass.), senior midfielder Daniella Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) and McDonough all fired a volley off shots on the NEC goal. The four continued to fire away on the offensive end even though Elms couldn't find the back of the net. The Blazers defense remained strong, shutting down NEC and not even giving them an opportunity to get a shot off. Elms broke through in the 83rd minute when Basua netted a nice goal to put the Blazers up 1-0. Just three minutes later, McDonough continued her stellar season and netted yet another goal to give Elms a 2-0 advantage. The pair of late goals allowed the Blazers to grab another conference win with a nice 2-0 victory.
