HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening half would begin with New England College having possession of the ball early, recording four corner kicks and five shots in the opening ten minutes. Elms would quickly respond with their first shot by junior forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain) but that would be saved by the Pilgrims goalkeeper. The two sides would continue trade possession for the next ten minutes until the Blazers would see shots from Molina Ferrer, senior forward/midfielder Wai Kyaw (West Springfield, Mass.), and junior midfielder Pajorn Drysdale (Nantucket, Mass.). After back-to-back corner kicks for Elms, sophomore midfielder Andrew Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) and defender Nicolas Velasquez (Ellington, Conn.) would both take shots, but NEC would hold defensively and keep the game scoreless going into halftime.
The Blazers would continue taking their shots, including from Drysdale, senior midfielder Jamal Hamisi (Nottingham, United Kingdom), sophomore midfielder Patricio Vidales (Cancun, Mexico), and first-year forward Ibrahim Ayouba (Springfield, Mass.), but the Pilgrims would score in the 67th minute. New England would continue to put pressure on the Elms defense and that would work in their favor shortly after a second NEC goal in the 76th minute. Elms would see a few more shots towards the end of the game, including from first-year Luigi Scala (Milan, Italy), but the 'Grims would hold them scoreless as the final horn blew, winning the match 2-0.
