Women's Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day with a 3-1 Win Over Dean

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Volleyball team hosted Dean College for final conference match and their annual Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

PRIOR TO THE MATCH

The Elms College Women's Volleyball team honored their four seniors Angelica Marks (Miami, Fla.), Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, Mass.), Alejandra Marin (Dorado, Puerto Rico), Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, N.M.), and graduate student Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, Mass.), and their loved ones prior to the start of the conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening set would start by Holman recording a service ace for the first point of the afternoon. Shortly thereafter, Elms would add back-to-back kills from Izquierdo and a kill by Moore. Dean would rally back to tie the set, but the Blazers would add kills from junior Quiana Gibbs (Porterville, Calif.), Marks, Marin, and Izquierdo, along with Moore adding a service ace, to take back the lead 17-11. The Bulldogs would try to create some momentum, but Elms would continue to add to their lead with help from six kills, by Marks, Q.Gibbs, Marin, sophomore Olivia Rivera (Springfield, Mass.), and Izquierdo, to win the first set 25-17.

The second set would begin with the Blazers earning another early lead, with Marin adding a kill, a block, and a service ace, Q.Gibbs scoring two kills, and Rivera recording a block. As the set would continue, ten combined kills would be made by Izquierdo, Q.Gibbs, Marin, and Marks, along with two service aces from Izquierdo and Marks, to secure the second set 25-21.

The third set would see Elms record six-straight points, with Holman adding two service aces. Throughout the set, the two conference foes would battle for the lead, with six kills by Izquierdo, Q.Gibbs, Marks, and Marin, along with a service ace from Marin. Unfortunately, Dean would win the third set 25-20 and bring the match to two sets to one. 

The fourth and final set would begin by Marin scoring on a kill, the two intrastate foes would continue to battle for the lead. The Blazers would then take the lead with the assistance of three kills by Izquierdo, Q.Gibbs, and Marks, along with a service ace by Izquierdo, to clinch the first lead of the set. As the fourth set would continue, Q.Gibbs and Marin would add four kills, along with a service ace by Holman and a block from Holman and Marks, to win the set 25-18 and win the match three sets to one in the season finale at Picknelly Arena.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Q.Gibbs - 17 kills and 14 digs.

  • Holman - 39 assists, 13 digs, four service aces, and a block assist.

  • Izquierdo - 19 digs, nine kills, two service aces, and an assist.

  • Marin - 30 digs, 11 kills, two service aces, and a block assist.

  • Marks - six kills, four digs, a service ace, and a block assist.

  • Moore - 24 digs, two assists, a kill, and a service ace.

  • Rivera - a kill and a block assist.

 

UP NEXT: The Elms Women's Volleyball team will have concluded the 2025 season and look forward to competing in 2026.
