HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set would begin by Albertus scoring the first point, but after back-to-back service aces by senior Angelica Marks (Miami, Fla.) would help give Elms a 3-1 lead. The two conference foes would begin to trade possession, where the Blazers would earn points off of kills by junior Quiana Gibbs (Porterville, Calif.), senior Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, Mass.), and junior Lilliana Simmons (Springfield, Mass.), but the Falcons would then take advantage after scoring 10-straight points to take the lead. Izquierdo and Simmons would record a combined three kills, but Albertus would win the opening set 25-22.
The second set would start by Elms scoring the first point, but the Falcons would earn the first lead, at 3-1. This lead would be short lived thanks to a kill from Q.Gibbs and back-to-back service aces by Simmons. The two GNAC opponents would continue to battle each other early, with the Blazers earning four kills by Izquierdo and Simmons scoring on two kills and a service ace, but AMC would take the second set 25-22, to take a two set lead.
The third set would see Albertus score first, but the two foes would go back and forth between possession for the entire set, with Elms scoring with the assistance of service aces by Marks and graduate student Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, Mass.), along with kills from sophomore Olivia Rivera (Springfield, Mass.), Simmons, Izquierdo, and Q.Gibbs, and the Blazers would win the set following a service ace by Marks 25-18, to bring the match score to 2-1.
The fourth and final set of the match would start with the Falcons scoring first, but AMC would continue to keep possession in their favor. Elms would try to battle back, with the help of seven kills by senior Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, N.M.), Izquierdo, and Marks.
