Women's Basketball Lose by Ten on the Road at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team hosted Vermont State University, Lyndon in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game would start by first year guard Sanaii Diaz (Worcester, Mass.) making a layup, scoring the opening basket. The two teams would trade possession, with sophomore forward/center Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.) would block a jump shot Bard, followed by a steal by senior guard Kelly LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) that would lead to a layup from junior forward Tatiana Pereira (Providence, R.I.). Shortly thereafter Turco would make back-to-back layups, one that would be assisted by Diaz. As the opening quarter continued, the Raptors would score six points to bring the score to 8-6. Senior guard Piper Graham (Lancaster, Penn.) would add a steal, but Bard would continue to score and take the lead, 13-8, to end the first quarter. The Raptors would start the second quarter by scoring the first basket, but the Blazers would quickly respond with a layup by senior forward/center Talia Uribe (South Hadley, Mass.) would make a tip-in. As Bard continued to add to their lead, Elms would continue their efforts to take back the lead, with the assistance of a steal by first year guard Aniah Glover (West Haven, Conn.) into a breakaway layup, a pair of layups by Uribe after receiving a pass from junior center Teah McKoy (Hartford, Conn.), and a pair of jump shots and a steal from Pereira. Unfortunately, the Raptors would golf onto their lead, 22-20, going into the halftime break.

The third quarter would begin by the two teams exchanging possession, with Diaz adding a steal, but Bard would score first. Uribe would score on a layup and a pair of free throws, followed by a three-point shot by Graham, to bring the game within a basket. Moments later, the Blazers would gain possession after a steal by Diaz would lead to Graham finding Uribe open to score a layup to gain a short-lived lead. The Raptors would regain the lead, but Elms would see Turco, Uribe, and Graham make a combined four free throws, along with a layup by Pereira, a pair of steals from Graham and Turco, to head into the fourth and final quarter with a 35-34 lead. The fourth quarter would begin by Turco making a pair of layups, after receiving passes from Pereira and Uribe. Shortly thereafter, Turco would draw a foul and would make one of her free throw attempts, followed by a layup by Uribe and Diaz would make a steal, but Bard would tie the game, 42-42. In the final minutes of the game, the Blazers would continue their efforts as Diaz and Graham would make a combined four free throws and a layup by Diaz, but unfortunately the Raptors would walk away with the 58-48 non-conference win over Elms.
