Albertus Magnus Outlasts Mens Soccer, 1-0
CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior goalkeeper
Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) was tremendous
between the pipes collecting 12 saves, but an unlucky bounce
resulted in an own goal and Albertus Magnus College was able to
hold on for a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Thursday
afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game.
With the loss, Elms falls to 0-4 on the season while Albertus Magnus improves to 5-1 overall.
Albertus Magnus controlled play throughout the first half when a cross from Gabriel Goja (Naugatuck, Conn.) was deflected by an Elms defender resulting in an own goal and a 1-0 lead for the Falcons at the 26:12 mark.
Albertus Magnus totaled 13 shots on net for the game (32 total shots), while Sullivan made 10 of his 12 saves in the second half for the Blazers, keeping the game at 1-0.
Elms had several opportunities to score the equalizer but managed only two shots on target including one each from sophomore forward Tavish Leland (Bridgton, Maine) and freshman defender Bryan Davey (Palmer, Mass.).
Alphonse Buccitti (West Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons' offense firing six shots on goal, while Steven Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) tallied two shots on goal.
Elms returns to non-conference action on Saturday, September 18 when it travels to Lyndon State University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
