Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior midfielder Courtney Johnson (Belchertown, Mass.) scored on a deep shot late in the contest, but a pair of goals by Utica College's Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) helped the Pioneers seal a 4-1 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-3 on the season, while Utica improves to 3-1 overall.

Utica's offense got to work early as Hoxsie scored on a breakaway goal just 54 seconds into the contest, blasting a ball in the top right corner of the net.

The Pioneers added to their lead with another breakaway opportunity, this time with the scoring strike coming off the foot of Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, N.Y.) at the 8:24 mark, lifting the lead to 2-0.

Hoxsie again found the back of the net early in the second half when Squeglia set him up with a perfect pass that Hoxsie placed in the right corner of the net at the 58:05 mark.

Two minutes and six seconds later, David Garcia (Fairport, N.Y.) capped the scoring for Utica when he corralled the ball off a save by Elms' junior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) and punched it in the back of the net, giving the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.

Johnson put the Blazers on the board with 14 minutes remaining in the game, firing a shot from 20 yards out. Senior defender Jon D'Amours (Chicopee, Mass.) set Johnson up on the play with his first assist of the season.

Sullivan finished with 11 saves for the Blazers in the losing effort, as Utica took 27 shots with 15 coming on target.

Hoxsie and Jonathon Wood (Derry, N.H.) had five shots each to lead Utica in the winning effort. Goalkeeper Anthony Caruso (Easton, Conn.) recorded his second victory of the season in 76:23 of action.
