HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would start the game with offensive possession, earning three-straight penalty corners in the opening minute of play, but New England College would be the first to capitalize offensively, scoring shortly thereafter. The Pilgrims would continue to put pressure on the Blazers defense, but senior goaltender Katelyn Lynes (South Hadley, Mass.) would make four saves in the first quarter and the Elms defense would make a defensive save and block three shots. NEC would add one more goal before the end of the quarter to take a 2-0 lead. The second quarter would continue to be controlled by the Pilgrims, seeing their offense take seven shots. Fortunately, Lynes would make three saves, with one shot finding the back of the net to increase their lead to 3-0 before the halftime break.
New England College would come out of the halftime break with the same aggression as the previous half, taking 10 shots during the third quarter. The Blazers defense would block two shots and Lynes would make an additional four saves, but the Pilgrims would find the back of the net three more times to take a six-point lead. In the fourth quarter, NEC would continue to challenge the Elms defenders, taking nine more shots, including one last goal, but the Blazers would block three of those shots and Lynes would make four more saves. Unfortunately, the Pilgrims would defeat Elms 7-0 in conference play.
