Women's soccer falls at Rhode Island College 3-1 in season opener

Chicopee, Mass- Junior goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, NY) had 11 saves but RIC squeezed past the Blazers on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

With the loss Elms moves to 0-1 on the season while RIC improves to 1-0. The Blazers got their lone goal from junior midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn) on a beautiful set up from sophomore midfielder Meeghan O'Connor (Fall River, Mass).

With a starting line up that features four freshman Elms hung tough, but RIC outshot the Blazers 24-15 and held a slight advantage in corner kicks as well. The Blazer's attack forced several close calls for the RIC defense as the first period came to a close but they were unable to continue the onslaught in the second period.

Elms will return to action on Saturday, Sept 6th against Rutgers Camden at the Drew Tournament at 2:00 pm.
