Women’s Swimming Finishes Second At Simmons College Dual Meet

BOSTON, MA –
Elms College sophomore swimmer Ashley Arbo (Kensington, CT) took first place in three events to help pace the Blazers to a second place finish in Saturday afternoon’s season-opening women’s swim meet at Simmons College.

Simmons won the dual meet with a team score of 147, while Elms finished with 137 points in their first competition of the season.

The Blazers made a splash early as the team of Arbo, freshman Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, MA), and freshmen Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, MA) and Chalis Bird (Windsor, MA) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.34.

Arbo registered first place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.26), 100-yard backstroke (1:08.71) and 200-yard individual medley (2:32.16).

Dudunake clocked a winning time of 33.27 in the 50-yard breaststroke and added a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.14). Dudunake also notched a second place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 30.23.

The team of freshman Tricia Ruell (Chicopee, MA), junior Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, CT), sophomore Katie Roberts (Torrington, CT) and junior Alison McBride (East Providence, RI) closed out the meet by clocking a top time of 2:01.42 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The women’s swim team returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 14 with a meet at St. Joseph’s College (ME). Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
