NORTH ADAMS, MA – MCLA received a pair of goals from Lindsay Barbolla (Greenwich, NY) and registered 32 shots to help propel the Trailblazers to a 3-0 victory over Elms College in Thursday afternoon’s non-conference women’s soccer game at Ron Shewcraft Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-2 on the season while MCLA improves to 1-2 overall.

The Trailblazers bolted out to a quick 2-0 lead as Barbolla found the back of the net in the 17th minute after dribbling through the Blazers defense, and then again four minutes later when she scored on a rebound.

MCLA struck again at the 52:04 mark when Lauren Ford (Voorheesville, NY) played a beautiful ball up ahead to a streaking Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) who avoided a defender and placed the ball in the top left corner of the net. The goal tied the career goals record at MCLA and capped the scoring for the game.

The Blazers notched 10 shots in the contest as junior midfield Alison Couture (Chicopee, MA), freshman midfielder Nicole Wynne (Hanson, MA) and sophomore forward Jennifer Killion (Cambridge, MA) recorded two each.

Freshman goal keeper Molly Corse (Bernardston, MA) collected 15 saves in the losing effort.

Tietgens led the MCLA offensive attack with eight shots, while Barbolla tallied six shots. Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) turned away seven shots for the Trailblazers between the pipes.

Elms College returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12 for a 12:00 p.m. showdown at Clark. The Blazers then travel to Westfield State on Sept. 15 to conclude their four-game road trip to start the season.
