Women's Lacrosse Takes On New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team traveled to New England College for a conference game on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first quarter, junior goalkeeper Marisa LaRocque (Agawam, Mass.) would record four saves. During the quarter, junior midfielder Rachel Dort (Chicopee, Mass.), senior midfielder Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.) would each earn a draw control, followed by a shot from sophomore attack Amanda Reed (Somers, Conn.), first year attack Chloe Sullivan (Hampden, Mass.), and Dort would each take a shot. Unfortunately, New England College would score six goals in the quarter, to take an early 6-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Blazers would see LaRocque make six more saves. Then as the quarter progressed, first year midfielder Zellia Fanfa (Brunswick, N.Y.) would take a shot, and then Dort would score her first goal of the game on a free position attempt. But the Pilgrims would add an additional six goals before the halftime break, to increase their lead to 12-1.

In the third quarter, LaRocque would make four more saves, along with three draw control victories by Dort and graduate student defender Angelina Cellucci (Sicklerville, N.J.), but the NEC offense would score five goals in the quarter, to make the score 17-1. In the fourth quarter, the Elms offense would see two goals by Dort on free position attempts, draw along with control wins by Dort, Fanfa, LaRocque would add a save, and shots from sophomore attack Lily Sheridan (Ashby, Mass.) and Fanfa. Then in the final seconds of play, Cronin would find the back of the net for her 100th collegiate career goal. Unfortunately, the Pilgrims would score one final goal during the quarter and would defeat the Blazers, 18-4.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Dort would score three goals, with four shots, two ground balls, and four draw controls.

  • LaRocque would make 15 saves of the 33 shots she faced, with four ground balls and a caused turnover.

  • Cronin would score a goal, five ground balls, two ground balls, and four caused turnovers.

  • Sullivan would take a shot, a ground ball, and cause a turnover.

  • Fanfa three shots, a ground ball, and a draw control.

  • Reed and Sheridan would each take a shot.

  • Cellucci recorded a ground ball and a draw control.
