Elms College junior women's cross country runner Chantal Wakefield (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was selected as this week's female student athlete spotlight.

A nursing major at Elms, Wakefield completed her second season of cross country for the Blazers in 2010.

Wakefield currently holds the ninth fastest time by a Blazers' runner on Chicopee Memorial State Park's 5-kilometer course. Wakefield sprinted to a time of 25:39 on Sept. 26, 2009 during Elms' annual home invitational. The jaunt was her fastest of the 2009 season. In 2010, Wakefield clocked a time of 25:34 in the 5-kilometer race at the Western New England College (WNEC) Invitational on Oct. 16 to set a new personal best.

Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):

My favorite sports moments are playing lacrosse.

Who has been your biggest influence in sports and why:

My parents becaue they have always been there for me.

Why did you choose to attend Elms College:

I chose Elms College for the nursing program.

Where is your favorite place to travel and why:

My favorite place to travel to is any place outside of the country. I want to travel the world.

Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:

I would like to visit Greece and Rome because of their histories.

What is your favorite sports book or movie:

I like all movies.
