Erica Griffo

Erica Griffo – Elms College junior women’s soccer player Erica Griffo (Solvay, N.Y.) was selected as this month’s female student athlete spotlight.

A sports management major with a minor in coaching, Griffo chose Elms College because it is a small, fun, friendly school where she could continue playing sports.

Griffo’s favorite non-sports movie is How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days and she prefers the ocean over mountains because even if you don’t like the water you can still go on a boat.

The one thing in her life she can’t do without is her family – “I cannot go a day without talking to at least one of my family members. They are the most important thing to me.”

Growing up, Griffo’s biggest influence was her high school basketball coach.

“He taught me to never give up and keep trying even if you are going through a slump.  Things will always get better.”

Griffo played in 14 games for the women’s soccer team and fired six shots including one for a goal to help Elms to a 9-9-1 overall record in 2010. Griffo is the women’s soccer representative for the athletic department’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and serves as a work-study student for the Elms College athletics department. As a work-study student, Griffo helps in many phases of game day operations, including setup and breakdown, game/clock management and has also been a public address announcer.
