Marlene DiRaimo
Elms College junior softball player Marlene DiRaimo (Cranston, R.I.) was chosen as this month's female student athlete spotlight.
DiRaimo, a chemistry major at Elms, recently completed her third season as a member of the softball program.
DiRaimo, who plays left field for the Blazers, hit .425 in 16 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) games, collecting 17 hits, two doubles, two triples and 11 RBI en route to being named Second Team All-NECC. DiRaimo was an essential piece in helping Elms reach the NECC Championship title game for the third consecutive year and reach the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship for the second time in program history.
Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):
My favorite sports moment is experiencing the rush of a great game with your teammates.
Who has been your biggest influence outside of sports and why:
My biggest influence has been my mother because she is a strong, smart woman who supports my sister and I with everything.
Why did you choose to attend Elms College:
Where is your favorite place to travel and why:
My favorite place to travel to is Dunkin Donuts for the decaf coffee.
Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:
I'd like to travel to Italy because of the great food and atmosphere. Also, my family is from there.
What is your favorite sports book or movie:
My favorite movie is A League of Their Own.
