Alexandra Bonavita
Elms College sophomore field hockey and softball player Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) was selected as this week's female student athlete spotlight.
Bonavita, a nursing major at Elms, completed her second season with the field hockey program in the fall of 2010 and is entering her second campaign with the Blazers' softball team in the spring of 2011.
During the 2010 field hockey season, Bonavita, who was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week twice, tallied 213 saves in 1120 minutes of action and was named All-NECC First Team. Bonavita registered a 4.06 goals against average and turned in a season-high 27-saves performance in a tough 3-1 loss to Wheelock College. During conference action, she amassed 106 saves and finished with a stellar .809 save percentage. She is ranked third on the program's all-time saves list with 466 in two seasons of action. Last season on the softball diamond, Bonavita hit at a .400 clip in 11 games played for the Blazers, going 2 for 5 at the dish and scoring two runs.
