Softball Coach Condon Earns Women Of Distinction Award

SOFTBALL COACH CONDON EARNS WOMEN OF DISTINCTION AWARD

CHICOPEE, MA, Feb. 8, 2007 - The Girl Scouts of Pioneer Valley recently honored Elms College softball coach Cheryl Condon as one of the Women of Distinction Award winners.

Condon has been the head softball coach at Elms College for 20 years and is a member of the Department of Education, the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Softball Committee and the Health and Fitness Director for Step Forward/Step Ahead program. Condon has also organized numerous softball clinics over the past several years.

"It is an honor to be recognized amongst the other nominees for this award," Condon noted. "I am awed by their accomplishments, and it's a great honor just to be mentioned with them."

The Girl Scouts of Pioneer Valley have been honoring local women annually who are outstanding in their fields or endeavors, have no fear of tackling difficult issues and act as important role models for our youth, especially girls. Local women are nominated and final selection is made by individuals representing business and civic organizations.

"Some of my proudest moments are bringing my team to do clinics to show that going to college and continuing to play a sport that you love is something that can be done," noted Condon. "My hope is that the girls will recognize that as women we are valued and that by playing a sport we can be recognized for our accomplishments and that maybe continuing with a sport is a great thing to do."
