Bryson Rainey

Elms College freshman men's volleyball player Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) was chosen as this week's male student athlete spotlight.

Rainey, who is in his first season as a member of the men's volleyball program, is a psychology major at Elms.

One match into the season, Rainey has provided a positive impact for the Blazers at the middle hitter position. Rainey smashed four kills on eight swings with just one hitting error to hit at a .375 clip against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the 2011 season-opener. He also delivered a dig and an assist in the contest.

Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):

My favorite sports moment would have to be a semifinal I played during my junior year of high school where we won in five sets. I had 21 kills and six blocks.

Who has been your biggest influence in sports and why:

My father. He has always been a really hard worker and does an amazing job providing for my sisters and mother.

Why did you choose to attend Elms College:

I chose Elms College because I loved the size and diversity. They also provided psychology as a major and have a good men's volleyball program.

Where is your favorite place to travel and why:

To be honest, I don't have a favorite place to travel to.

Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:

I would like to visit Japan. The lights, art and fashion are definitely things that I want to experience.

What is your favorite sports book or movie:

My favorite movie is Above The Rim.
