Mike Martin - Elms College junior men's volleyball player
Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) was chosen as this
week's male student athlete spotlight.
Martin, a history and secondary education major, is entering his second season as a member of the men's volleyball program.
Last season, Martin was one of three Blazers' players to be named all New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) when he was honored as the league's rookie of the year and a Second Team All-NECC selection. Martin, who after one season became the program’s fifth all-time leader in assists (460), also garnered three NECC Rookie of the Week awards. He handed out a season-best 50 assists in a 3-1 win over Lesley University, and totaled 136 digs for the year.
Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):
My favorite sports moment was when the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 2004.
Who has been your biggest influence outside of
sports and why:
My dad. He taught me how to play sports growing up and is the
reason why I am so competitive.
Why did you choose to attend Elms
College:
Where is your favorite place to travel and why:
Cape Cod. I love the beaches, the area in general and I love to fish. Cape Cod offers the best ocean and freshwater fishing around.
Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:
What is your favorite sports book or movie:
Cinderalla Man. It is a great, true story that portrays the history of this country and teaches you to never give up.
