Mark Gehring
Mark Gehring - Elms College sophomore men's swimmer
Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) was chosen
as this week's male student athlete spotlight.
Currently an undeclared major at Elms, Gehring is entering his second season as a member of the men's swim program.
At the season-ending New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship, Gehring helped the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams set and reset school records with times of 1:31.48 and 3:22.01 respectively. During the 2009-10 regular season he garnered several first place finishes including the 800-meter freestyle (9:57.10) and 400-meter freestyle (4:53.10) against Bridgewater State University, and the 1650-yard (18:05.29) and 500-yard (5:21.90) freestyle events at the Gordon College and Norwich University tri-match.
Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):
My favorite sports moment was winning my first national ATV motocross race.
Who has been your biggest influence outside of sports and why:
My father has been my biggest influence.
Why did you choose to attend Elms College:
Where is your favorite place to travel and why:
My favorite place to travel is anywhere I can ride or race ATV motocross.
Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:
I would love to go back to Alabama for the opening round of the
ATV motocross national series.
