Men's Swimming Third At Vassar Invitational
MEN'S SWIMMING THIRD AT VASSAR INVITATIONAL
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, Feb. 14, 2009 - Elms College freshman Zach LeBarron (Bennington, VT) won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyles and freshman Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, CT) added a pair of second place finishes to help the men's swim team post a third place finish at Saturday's Vassar Sprint Invitational.
The Blazers tallied 125 points to place behind host Vassar (239) and Skidmore (130). SUNY Maritime (111), Pace University (26) and SUNY Cobleskill (22) rounded out the six-team field.
LeBarron missed the school-record in the 50-yard freestyle by just .02 en route to victory in a time of 22.67 and later clocked a victory in the 100-yard freestyle (50.42).
Tonnesen, meanwhile, placed second in both the 50-yard backstroke (27.36) and 100-yard backstroke (1:00.70). He later added a new school-record in his fourth place finish in the 100-yard individual medley (1:00.38).
LeBarron and Tonnesen also teamed with freshmen Garrett Brune (Lakeville, MA) and Tyler Filiault (North Adams, MA) to set a new school-record en route to third place finish in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay (1:47.52).
Brune, junior Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) and junior Mike Starke (Chicopee, MA) placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 50-yard breaststroke to earn a combined 12 critical points for the Blazers.
Elms College concludes its 2008-09 season at the New England Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on February 27-March 1 at Roger Williams University.
