David McDaniel

Elms College sophomore men's basketball player David McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J.) was selected as this week's male student athlete spotlight.

McDaniel, a sports management major at Elms, completed his first year as a member of the Blazers' men's basketball program during the 2010-11 season.

McDaniel competed in 24 games this season for Elms and helped the squad reach its sixth NCAA Division III Championship in the last seven years. McDaniel scored 111 points (4.6 per game) and hauled in 3.8 rebounds per contest (92 total) helping guide the Blazers to a seventh-straight conference championship and its seventh consecutive 20-plus win season. He also contributed a second-best 21 blocks, dished out 13 assists and recorded nine steals in his debut season.

Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):

My favorite sports moment was when my team came back in the state championship game and ended up winning it during my senior year of high school.

Who has been your biggest influence in sports and why:

My biggest influence has been my father because he taught me that there's more to life than basketball but also taught me to work hard for anything I want to achieve.

Why did you choose to attend Elms College:

I chose Elms College to become a better student athlete and help the basketball team accomplish big goals.

Where is your favorite place to travel and why:

My favorite place to travel to is anywhere outside of the United States.

Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:

I'd like to travel to Europe.

What is your favorite sports book or movie:

My favorite movie is He Got Game.
