Juan Alverio

Juan Alverio - Elms College senior men's basketball player Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) was selected as this month's male student athlete spotlight.

An accounting and business management major, Alverio is entering his fourth season as a member of the men's basketball squad.

Alverio chose to attend Elms College because "I wanted to come to a school where I could play ball and get a good education. I also like that Elms is a family. The teachers and coaches are always available to talk to because of the small-school environment."

Alverio saw action in 29 of the Blazers' 30 games during the 2009-10 season helping the team to the second highest win total in program history and its first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship. Alverio hauled in a fourth-best 115 rebounds and led the team in boards in four games during the season. He also netted 131 points and blocked 19 shots during the campaign.
