Brianna Lyons

Elms College freshman field hockey player Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) was chosen as this week's female student athlete spotlight.

A nursing major at Elms, Lyons is in her first season as a member of the Blazers' field hockey program.

Lyons was stellar patrolling the defensive third of the backfield contributing three defensive saves. She also fired five shots and took a penalty stroke during her debut season in 2010.

Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):

My favorite sports moment is a tie between winning the South Sectional tournament and winning the Hockomock League title on my birthday.

Who has been your biggest influence in sports and why:

My sister and best friend Brittany who plays ice hockey at Quinnipiac University and trains at the Olympic Training Center.

Why did you choose to attend Elms College:

I chose Elms College for the Nursing progam, to play field hockey and for the small school size.

Where is your favorite place to travel and why:

My favorite place to travel to is Cape Cod because it is a tradition to go there and we have lots of wonderful memories from there.

Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:

I would like to visit Italy.

What is your favorite sports book or movie:

My favorite movie is She's The Man.
