Nicolino Iavicoli

Elms College junior baseball player Nicolino Iavicoli (Hampden, Mass.) was selected as this week's male student athlete spotlight.

Iavicoli, entering his third season as a member of the baseball program, is a management major at Elms.

In 2010, Iavicoli was one of five Blazers to record a .300 or better batting average, collecting 30 hits in 100 at bats. He was third on the team in RBI with 18 and third on the squad in doubles with six. He also drew nine walks and recorded 36 total bases. As a freshman in 2009, Iavicoli was named First Team All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) after batting a team-high .516 in 10 starts with a double, a triple and 10 RBI, helping guide Elms to the league's inaugural NECC Championship tournament title game.

Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):

My favorite sports moment was being part of an undefeated 24-0 junior league (12-14 years old) team. I defeated my Elms teammates Matt Wood and Carm Bonavita in the finals.

Who has been your biggest influence outside of sports and why:

My family. They always wanted me concentrate on sports because they knew it would instill character and values that I could use off the field.

Why did you choose to attend Elms College:

My favorite place to travel to is North Carolina to see my sister, aunt and uncle and my baby cousins.

Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:

What is your favorite sports book or movie:

My favorite movie is For Love Of The Game. It shows that it's more than just a game but something that you love and respect.
