ALERT: West Nile Virus in Chicopee
The State Department of Public Health has declared the City of Chicopee at critical threat level for West Nile Virus.
There has been one confirmed human and one confirmed animal case in the city. Students and visitors to campus are reminded that the National Center for Disease Control (CDC) indicates that you are at the greatest risk of mosquito bites at dawn and dusk.
In order to reduce the risk of contracting this mosquito borne disease, it is recommended that you wear long sleeves, long pants, and use insect repellant containing deet.
In order to minimize the risk of infection, Elms College is going to cancel outdoor events scheduled to take place on campus from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
